So I thought that I would write to everyone and let you know my story and share my experience. I am so grateful for all the encouragement that I received, the well wishes and for my three beautiful participants - Angela Cunningham, Peta Hurley and Shelley McEvoy. ONLY three on the call you may think, but it was meant to have more participants surely!!!
Well - yes and no. Yes because it would have been nice to go out guns blazing and have 50 or more participants on the call. No because it was meant to be for quite a few reasons and after listening to the playback I was so happy of the wonderful exchange that took place between the four of us - naturally and free flowing
I have learnt so much from just giving it a go and allowing it to still happen as I wanted to delay it as I knew I wasn't ready. My stomach was churning, I work full time so the date came around really fast and I ran out of time, I was studying and learning all this different technology on top of my studies as a life coach through the ISCA (Inspired Spirit Coaching Academy) and I was starting to feel so overwhelmed. My kids were grumpy with me as I was spending any of my free time always on the computer and I was stressed, tired and cranky. I decided only a few weeks ago that I was going to host this call on the 23 May 2013 as this date was special to me - the 10th anniversary of my mum passing away and a dedication to her. Because I had posted it on facebook and sent out a few emails I thought "I have to do it!". I didn't really have to, but I put this pressure on myself and I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it.
I was going to also have a co-host (which I will have for Part 2) and we were going to work out things together as we both wanted to do teleseminars and it would be less scary as we both hadn't hosted one before. She didn't want to let me down but also had a lot on her plate - also feeling stressed and overwhelmed and the date just wasn't good for her. I mentioned to her that it was important for me to go ahead and just maybe conduct it more as an introductory call and that we can go in more depth in a couple of weeks which would give us both some extra time to get prepared which she was happy with.
Although I had let some people know that I would be hosting a teleseminar and the topic was going to be "What Drives You Crazy" I didn't post the details of the call until that morning as I still thought "I may have to just pull out of it for now and postpone it until I was ready" - which then could have been forever as my fears got the better of me. As I was at work during the day I made it for 8pm (Perth time) which made it a bit late really for anyone living in the other states or overseas. I also didn't do a mail out as I was working on using a mail provider because I was so worried that if I did a bulk email out to my contact list that it could be classed as spam and I could get blocked. All this technology was certainly driving me crazy and pushing all my buttons. Until I started with the academy I didn't even make any national or international calls - only by mobile so all these extra numbers that I was given from the teleseminar provider also freaked me out.
Over the last few weeks I conducted and recorded a few interviews with fellow ISCA coaches to give me a bit of experience and confidence in working with audio as this was all so new for me. I actually still have more interviews to go and the number is growing with more people even outside the ISCA wanting to do interviews as they also have small businesses or websites that they would like to promote. So a win-win situation for all us.
Anyway back to my story - I had only used Skype a couple of times and that was only so I could either be coached or coach others to reduce the cost of calling outside the Perth metro area. As I was the host it didn't even occur to me that I needed to log in to Skype also as I could see from my screen who was on the call. I just had too much to concentrate on and too much stuff going on around in my head to function and think clearly. I was nervous and tired and totally freaking out. I could see that one of my participants - Shelley was on Skype but I couldn't hear her and I didn't know if she could hear me. Luckily she realised and jumped on the phone line just after we had got started and was able to join in the call. So although it was supposed to be done by both the telephone and the web it ended up being just conducted by phone. Still more learning for me and now I am now a bit more aware.
